Absolute Beginners > The Desktop

The Desktop is the first area you see when you boot up your Mac. It is a place where you can save files, folders and applications. When you attach a USB memory stick or other storage device it is displayed on the desktop.

Two other noticeable features are the Menu Bar (located along the top) and the Dock (which can be found along the bottom of the page.
